More than a hundred blankets were lying in the warehouse of Goalanda Municipality in Rajbari, which were allocated for distribution among the cold-stricken poor. Although these blankets were supposed to be distributed last winter, ousted Mayor Nazrul Islam Mandal did not distribute the blankets.
Goalanda Municipality Chief Assistant Fazlul Haque said that the ousted mayor had given the responsibility of distributing blankets to a councilor, but he did not distribute them. That is why the blankets allocated for the poor were lying in the warehouse. Currently, Goalanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jyoti Bikash Chandra has taken the initiative to distribute the blankets after learning about the matter.
Goalanda Municipality Administrator and Goalanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jyoti Bikash Chandra said, "After learning about the matter, I have taken the initiative to quickly distribute the blankets and they will be distributed among the poor of the municipality very soon. However, there was no legal error," he claimed.
